Knights are the warrior class members, who used to protect the royal bloodline and noble ranks. They have been a part of every ruling kingdom, whoever, they have been denoted by different names. Yet, their function was to safeguard the rulers. Also, their existence is as old as the civilizations go. So, there are so many references to the knights in ancient art as well as literature. In the ranking hierarchy, they are located at the bottom of the pyramid.
Knights have also found their places in modern literature. From books to movies, there have been countless references to various prominent knights, for example, the knights of Templar. They are connected to very famous part of Christianity and therefore, are a legend. So, there has been other of these too. Commonly, knights belong to Europe of Middle Ages. The eligibility depends from one region to another or one order to another. However, it is the head of state that has powers to grant knighthood to select few, who possess meritorious achievements.
Knights have played a very important part in various ruling dynasties. There have been many depictions of such incidents in paintings and carvings from old world. Europe has seen a lot of such situations and that is why, it is full of such examples. Also, their armors, swords as well as other items are a part of many museums around the globe. It is interesting to see how they used to perform their role in the wars even with so much of w eight in their hands and on their bodies. Needless to mention, those armors were made out of iron etc and thus were very heavy.
